Lacris, I went to SSA office to get SSN rejection letter for my wife as she is on h4 (DMV needs rejection letter to renew the license) and SSA Agent checked the passport of my wife for the expiry date, May be they are checking the expiry date now a days, I think you need to renew the passport and go to SSA office for SSN, But I may be wrong
Reddy77, I understand that in your wife's case the person at SSA needed to see something to show your wife's immigration status (I took a letter like that for myself 3 years ago). But in my case, my passport doesn't say anything to her other than the fact that I have an H4 visa stamped in. The moment I got the GC, that visa is not valid anymore, so it shouldn't make any difference. But thank you for taking the time to answer.

Sens. Schumer and Hutchison have offered the Bridge amendment. It has a chance to pass, although the battle may be tough.
The amendment is "on the floor" and could be acted on this afternoon.

UPDATE: The amendment has been withdrawn but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is permanently withdrawn. The issue seems to be whether or not the leaders will allow any amendments that touch immigration be offered on this bill.
Pray for this bill to PASS.

Guys good news from my side. Just got most awaited Card production Ordered emails for my wife and my son. I have not received the email for myself though. When I checked the status on Case Status Online site, I found that 485 for all three of us have been approved.
My priority date was Oct 2004 at NSC. Came to US in Feb 2000, so almost 8.5 years of waiting is finally finally over. I hope that NSC picks up the pace and approve all the people who are current.
Trust me!! I am not going anywhere. I will enjoy my green but at the same time will always work relentlessly to get the immigration reforms. I also prey from God almighty that all my friends/family members stuck in EB2/EB3 will also get their GC ASAP.
Wish you all the best, even though I have crossed the fence towards the greener pasture, I am always there to lend you a hand and help you climb up and jump across the fence.

Almost all companies, in every field (engg, medicine, nursing, research..) hire people through contracting agencies. Most of the companies these days hire only US citizens or GC or EAD and try best not to hire H1b and if you look at their employees, it is rare to find 50% or more h1b holders.
On the contrary, outsourcing companies may have majority of their workers coming here on L1 or H1b and when such a fgee is imposed, I guess, for the biggies, it is just a small adjustment in their costs of bringing workers which they will adjust in their other expenses.
Overall, I am not sure, how much revenue such a law will generate. Will it generate enough revenue which is being claimed (600 million?)
To me, this kinda speech and trashing Indian companies and outsourcing etc... and showing that they acted on it just looks like it is pure politics to save face during the election year.

I got a home loan last year through SunTrust on EAD without any issues. You would need to provide more documentation such as I-140 approval, I-1488 receipt copies. :)

He's been an advocate on backlog issues, and his staff had helped look into my case last year. I used his web site to send him an email (for VA residents only), slightly modifying the phone script to thank him, since I finally got my green card in November. Will post response when I receive it.

one of my close friend grew from a regular programmer to the position of VP in the span of last 6 years. he is facing lot of issues with GC.
clearly mirage didn't mean growing to the position of exactly VP. he meant a higher and slightly different position, for example an IT Manager. It is not that uncommon, for a IT Progmr who works in the same company for 5-6 years, offered a Manager position.

I filed for my wife's AP on Oct 12th and TSC and received the AP on Nov 1. Applied for UK transit visa on Nov 8 and received that on Nov 14th.
